Setting a New Year's Resolution or Goal? Strengthen it with FM's 7 Step Process
In consulting with businesses, educational institutions, and individuals, I've become aware of a pattern of thinking and behaving that greatly impacts the ability to maximize potential for achieving intended outcomes. The "staying power" necessary to see a goal through does not solely rely on intelligence or motivation. However, these two attributes have been greatly impacted by the setting of goals that are not truly in alignment with the desired outcome.
A word of goal setting advice ~ utilize self-reflection as an initial step. Get to the root of what you would like to accomplish as well as why you find it important to do so. This will strengthen your process in several ways: by helping you to become clear about what you truly desire and by giving you powerful insight as to why you are doing so when the process becomes challenging.I purposely chose "when" instead of "if" when referring to arising challenges. When a goal hasn't already been reached, chances are it is because it hasn't been included in the realm of your daily activities. Something new challenges us to defer from the default patterns of our usual workings.Though challenging, I encourage you to stay the course (or at least alter it). If this goal made it through your process of self-reflection, then it most likely is worthy of your ongoing attention.
